ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS Weekly Report

(MCMURRICH/MONTEITH TWP, ON) – On Friday February 26, 2016 members of the North East Region SAVE (Snowmobile, ATV, Vessel Enforcement) Unit were patrolling Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) trail D near Sprucedale.

Officers stopped a snowmobile travelling eastbound on the trail for travelling at a high rate of speed, when suddenly the driver decided to leave, striking an officer with his snowmobile. The driver, Gordon NUSSEY, 51 of Chatham-Kent was eventually stopped and arrested for the following offences:

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

• Assault a peace officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC

• Fail to stop for police, contrary to section 17.1(1) of the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act (MSVA)

• Speeding – in excess of 50 kilometers per hour on a public trail, contrary to section 14(1)(b)(ii) of the MSVA

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday March 24, 2016 in Sundridge, Ontario.

The officer was taken to hospital by Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with non-life threatening injuries.

ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS OPP ARREST HUNTSVILLE MAN

WITH IMPARIED DRIVING

(ARMOUR TWP, ON) – On Saturday February 27, 2016 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Chetwynd Road near Relative Road. The officer stopped a vehicle travelling west bound on Chetwynd Road and following a police investigation, arrested the driver for impaired driving.

OPP charged Gordon STALEY, 47 of Huntsville Ontario with the following offences:

• Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

• Fail or refuse to provide sample, contrary to section 254(5) of the CC

• Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to section 32(1) Liquor Licence Act (LLA)

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday March 24, 2016 in Sundridge, Ontario.
