ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS Weekly Report

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police and the North East Region S.A.V.E. (Snowmobile, All-Terrain vehicle, vessel enforcement) unit was patrolling local towns, villages and trails this past weekend from Friday March 4, 2016 – Sunday March 6, 2016.

Officers checked approximately 690 snowmobiles over the three days and charged 12 operators with speeding, two drivers with trail permit offences and one driver for not having insurance. Police investigated one collision in the Town of Kearney that involved two snowmobiles on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club trail D with no injuries.

OPP also responded to complaints of snowmobiles travelling on the sidewalks in the Village of Sundridge. Police conducted 48 hours of focused patrol during the month of February to this complaint and checked approximately 145 snowmobiles, charging five operators with Highway Traffic Act offences, one driver under the Trespass to Property Act and one driver with Liquor Licence Act offences. Please remember that when operating a snowmobile it is against the law to travel on sidewalks, they are for intended for pedestrians use only.

OPP would like to thank the majority of snowmobilers who drove responsibly this weekend.

FOUND COMPUTER ITEMS AND CELL PHONES IN BURK’S FALLS

(BURK’S FALLS, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received some found property back in December 2015. The items include several cell phones and computer parts. Police have been unable to locate the owner of these items, so if you have lost any items please contact the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to see if they belong to you. 1-888-310-1122

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS AND POLICE CHECKS

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLAND, ON) Employers are asking potential employees more and more for criminal record checks to be completed either for employment purposes or for volunteer work.

Criminal Record Check

This check will include the following information: Criminal convictions, outstanding entries, such as charges, warrants and absolute and conditional discharges.

Vulnerable Sector – Police Record Check

This check is intended for applicants who are seeking volunteer and/or employment with agencies who require a Criminal Record Check along with local police involvement.

Applicants that require a Police Record Check must provide a letter from their agency.

The vulnerable sector screening was established to provide screening of individuals who intend on working or volunteering with the vulnerable sector which include children under the age of 18 years, and/or persons who, because of their age or a disability are in a position of dependence, or are otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by persons in a position of authority. This check also includes the pardoned sex offender database.

Two (2) pieces of identification are required for all checks, one of which must be government-issued and include the applicant’s name, date of birth, signature and photo.
