Almaguin Highlands OPP Weekly Report

(SOUTH RIVER, ON) – On Wednesday January 3, 2018 the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated three separate reports of thefts from vehicles in South River. The thefts occurred sometime overnight between January 2, 2018 and January 3, 2018 from unlocked vehicles that were parked on Fitz Avenue, Ottawa Avenue and Teby Boulevard. Suspects stole a small amount of change and a pair of STIHL sunglasses.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this theft should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS OPP WOULD LIKE TO REMIND MOTORIST TO BE PREPARED FOR WINTER DRIVING

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorist that winter is once again here and that means drivers need to adjust their driving to winter conditions.

Officers from the Almaguin Highlands OPP detachment have investigated 14 collisions since January 1, 2018 of which two involved non-life threatening injuries and the remaining 12 involved property damage.

Here are a few safety tips to help keep you safe on the road this winter:

Winter tires help driving in the snow and slippery road conditions

Plan ahead, if the weather is terrible change you travel times or day

Slow down, stay alert and never rush

Be mindful of snowplows, they help make the roads safer for travel

Do not travel when you are tired

Always wear your seatbelt

Keep a winter kit in your car with non-perishable food items, blankets and a charged cell phone.

Never drink, do drugs and drive

Always let someone know where you are going
