(MUNICIPALITY OF SOUTH HURON, ON) On Tuesday August 12, 2014, around 10:30 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were called to a rural address on Whalen Line east of Centralia, where a two year old child was reported missing.
Investigation revealed that sometime before 8 p.m., a group of children were playing in a corn field that surrounds a residence. When the children returned to the house, a two year old female child was unaccounted for. Family members and neighbours searched the property but were unable to locate the child.
Huron and Perth County OPP officers set up a perimeter and commenced a search of the area. OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) members, the OPP West Region Canine Unit together with South Huron Volunteer firefighters are conducting a grid search. A Rescue Coordination Centre helicopter from Canadian Forces Base Trenton, and an OPP helicopter are also assisting.
Whalen Line between Elimville Line and McTaggart Line has been closed to traffic. Motorists will have to find alternate routes around the area.
