Throughout this week members of Central Hastings O.P.P have utilized a police cruiser equipped with the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system. Cameras mounted on the cruiser automatically scan licence plates which are checked against a database to see if the plates are expired or stolen or if the registered owner’s licence is suspended.
On November 27, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle identified by the A.L.P.R system with an expired validation tag on Victoria Street North in the Village of Tweed. In addition, the driver, a 42 year old man of Belleville, ON was found to be driving while his licence was suspended. He was subsequently charged for both offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
A few hours later, at 4:30 p.m. officers observed a vehicle speeding in the construction zone on Highway # 62 south of Foxboro in the City of Belleville. The driver, a 25 year old Stirling, ON man was found to be driving without a licence. He was charged with Drive No licence and Speeding – Construction Zone With Workers Present under the Highway Traffic Act.
