88 Year Old Suspended Driver Charged

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 22, 2016, Members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 12:44 p.m., police observed a northbound vehicle on Ontario Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated. As a result of the investigation the driver was found to be suspended.

Gerard CHIASSON, 88 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (X2); and

Fail to Surrender Suspended Licence to Ministry, contrary to section (35)(1) of the Highway Traffic Act; and

Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act; and

Fail to Notify Change of Address, contrary to section 9(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 20, 2016.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH INSECURE LOAD

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On May 22, 2016, Members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties in the City of Elliot Lake.

At 5:00 p.m., policed observed a vehicle on Bennett Drive, dragging a pole with a concrete block. A traffic stop was initiated.

Dennis MILLER, 80 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and charged with: Insecure Load, contrary to section 111(2) of the Highway Traffic Act.
