(COBOURG, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to advise the public to be aware of a new twist on a potential fraud that occurred on Thursday December 5 at approximately 2:40 pm at the CIBC branch.
OPP received a complaint on Thursday from the CIBC bank in Cobourg that an 82 year old female from Alnwick -Haldimand had been contacted by an unknown male impersonating a CIBC bank employee. The male had contacted the victim at her residence and instructed her to go to the bank and withdraw a substantial amount of money from her account. She was then instructed to bring the money back to her residence. The male had even arranged for a taxi to attend the victim’s residence and transport her to the bank. The bank manager became aware of the victim’s request for funds and stopped the transaction. The investigation into this matter is continuing and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has been contacted.
