8 Ejected From Buggy Near Belmore – 3 Year Old Sent To London Hospital

(HOWICK, ON) – This afternoon, just after 1:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County EMS and Howick Fire Department responded to a single vehicle collision on McIntosh Line southeast of Belmore.

Upon arrival at the crash scene emergency personnel located an overturned buggy and eight ejected occupants. Five of the occupants were treated at the scene for minor injuries and three were sent to hospital.

Two of those that were sent to hospital have since been released. The youngest passenger, a three-year-old girl from Howick has been transported to hospital in London with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police have determined the horse drawn buggy was travelling southbound on McIntosh Line when a piece of equipment failed on the buggy. This failure caused the male driver to lose control of the buggy. The seating compartment overturned and the occupants were ejected.

The injured horse was later euthanized.

Western Region OPP Technical Traffic Investigation (TTCI) members attended the scene to assist with the collision investigation. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours however it has since re-opened.
