(OXFORD COUNTY, ON.) – On February 15, 2016 at approximately 12:10 p.m. Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint of hunters chasing foxes through the Village of Mount Elgin.
OPP members located the hunters and as a result of the investigation, 71 year-old Rodger MARTIN of Bayham was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:
Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Firearms and ammunition were seized.
The male was released to appear on a future date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock.
It is important for hunters to ensure that rules and hunter safety is being followed. Hunters should be aware of the following:
Travelling onto property without permission could result in a Trespassing charge under the Trespass to Property Act.
Damage done while travelling on property could result in a Mischief charge under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Be aware of their surroundings and to ensure the safety of the public and other hunters.
