70 Year Old Drunk Driver Arrested At RIDE

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA, ON) – On Saturday December 29, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Highway 7 near Cobblestone Place where they investigated the male driver of a grey motor vehicle that entered into the check point.

While speaking with the driver, officers observed an open container of alcohol between his legs and detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The driver completed a standard field sobriety test which was performed poorly. Officers determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

70-year-old Terrence RIGBY of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 plus and Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on February 1, 2019 to answer to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
