(Asphodel-Norwood Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a collision this afternoon just after 3:00pm on Highway 7 east of the Village of Norwood.
An eastbound vehicle left the roadway and collided with a culvert near a private driveway. The five passengers in the SUV represented three generations of a Bowmanville area family. The three rear passengers were injured and transported to Campbellford hospital. The grandmother and a six year old received serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Ornge Air Ambulance was on standby while medical professionals worked to save the life of the youngest crash victim; sadly, the seven week old baby died in hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.
Highway 7 was closed for three hours, while collision reconstruction team investigated the cause of the collision.
