(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently investigating a fatal motor two vehicle collision which occurred around 7pm, October 7th, 2015.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Ron McNeil Line and Yarmouth Centre Road, Central Elgin. A Chevy pick-up truck was travelling south on Yarmouth Centre Road when the driver failed stop at the stop sign at Yarmouth Centre Road and Ron McNeil Line and collided with an silver Dodge SUV that was eastbound on Ron McNeil Line. The pickup struck the SUV broadside (t-boned) causing both vehicles to travel into the South East ditch.
Central Elgin Fire and EMS were on scene.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 68-year-old Malahide Township man was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old London, ON woman was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.
A 33-year-old male seated in the rear seat on the passenger side was transported to hospital in critical condition.
A 4-month old male infant, who was in a rear facing car seat in the back seat behind the driver was transported to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.
Release of the deceased name is pending notifications of next of kin.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision investigators are currently on scene assisting with the investigation which is ongoing.
It is anticipated that Yarmouth Centre Line at Ron McNeil Road will remain closed for the next several hours. Traffic is currently being re-routed around the area.
