(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Thursday March 03, 2011 shortly after 1 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer was conducting radar patrol along Hwy. 23 in Atwood. The officer observed a north bound car pass his location whose driver was reading a book.
The officer immediately followed the car, observing it weave, striking the gravel shoulder and veering onto the oncoming lane. The cruisers emergency lights and siren were activated but the driver was too absorbed in the task at hand that the police car was not observed until approximately one kilometre down the road.
When the car was finally stopped and the officer approached the car he observed two young children in child safety seats located in the back seat of the vehicle.
As a result of this incident, the 68 year old male driver from the Municipality of North Perth was charged with careless driving.
