5 Arrested In Drug Bust

(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND, ON) –On October 12, 2015 at 6:29am Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious person complaint in the Grafton area north of Hwy 401. Officers located the man who was subsequently arrested for possession of marihuana. Additional information led police to search for further suspects. Officers located two other vehicles in the area leading to four more persons being arrested for possession of marihuana. One of the vehicles, a white cube van, had been reported stolen last month in York region.

As a result of the ensuing investigation, five men face a variety of criminal charges and were held for a bail hearing scheduled on October 13, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

1) Randy BALKARAN age 20 of Scarborough, Ontario

2) Monish GHOSH age 19 of Scarborough, Ontario

3) Piraveen PARAMANANTHAN age 19 of Toronto, Ontario

4) Rishi VASANTHAKUMAR age 20 of Toronto, Ontario

5) Shuninthan BAHEERATHAN age 22 of Richmond Hill, Ontario

All five accused face the following charges:

-Mischief under $5,000

-Possession of break in instruments

-Trespass by night

-Break and Enter with intent to commit indictable offence

-Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of trafficking over 3 kg

BALKARAN faces a further charge of Possession of a Schedule II Substance, cannabis marihuana, under 30g.

GHOSH faces further charges of Possession of a Schedule II Substance, cannabis marihuana, under 30g, Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and Breach of Recognizance (two counts).

PARAMANANTHAN and VASANTHAKUMAR faces two further charges of Breach of Recognizance.

BAHEERATHAN faces further charges of Possession of a Schedule II Substance, cannabis marihuana, under 30g and Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
