40 Year Old Arrested For Drunk Driving E-Bike

(COUNTY of BRANT, ON) –Members of the County of Brant Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Grand River Street North, Paris in the County of Brant in response to citizen calling and advising that an E-Bike was being driven erratically at approximately 11:55 p.m. on 24 November, 2016.

OPP investigators located the E-bike on Grand River Street North and initiated contact with the male operator. Police arrested the male after discovering that he was intoxicated by alcohol.

Police have charged 40-year-old Adam ALLISON of Norfolk County, Ontario with the following charges under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Driving with ability impaired by alcohol

Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford at a later date to answer to his charges. If convicted, the offender will be subject to the Criminal Code penalties, including a fine or jail time, and a driving prohibition.

The County of Brant OPP would like to remind the public the following facts regarding E-Bikes:

E-bikes/e-scooters, mopeds, and motor scooters are not permitted on controlled access highways in Ontario which include the 403 in the County of Brant OPP area.

The operator must be at least 16 years of age and must wear an approved bicycle or motorcycle helmet.

Before purchasing/operating a new type of vehicle, OPP recommends researching requirements for equipment and licensing under the Highway Traffic Act in Ontario and permitted uses in the municipality in which you intend to operate it.

An E-Bike is considered a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Anyone operating an E-Bike while intoxicated can be charged for impaired driving under the Criminal Code of Canada.
