(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Friday, November 8, 2013, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of the West Region Emergency Response team, and Grey County OPP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a property on East Back Line, Municipality of Grey Highlands, Grey County.
As a result of the execution of the search warrant, a sophisticated indoor cannabis marihuana grow operation was revealed. Police seized cannabis marihuana plants and processed cannabis marihuana. The estimated, combined value of the seized controlled substances was $3,675,846. Police also seized offence related property that consisted of grow and trafficking equipment from the residence during the execution of the search warrant. The estimated value of the offence related property was $52,000.
The following individuals were arrested during the execution of the search warrant:
1) Joao SARAIVA (48 years) of Grey Highlands, Grey County.
2) Susan DOUGLAS (59 years) of Grey Highlands, Grey County.
3) Nicholas WATMAN (29 years) of Queensville, Ontario.
These three individuals were charged with production of cannabis marihuana, possession of cannabis marihuana for the purposes of trafficking, and theft of electricity. They were held in custody for bail hearings.
