3 Vehicle Fatal Collision on Highway #3, Central Elgin

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two cars and a pick-up truck.

The collision occurred at 6:26pm on November 15, 2013 on Highway #3 approximately 1km east of Belmont Road, Central Elgin.

A silver Honda Civic car and black Dodge Ram truck were traveling east on Highway #3. A black Pontiac Grand Prix traveling west appears to have crossed over the centre line into the oncoming path of the Honda Civic, which was being followed by the Dodge Ram. The Pontiac Grand Prix struck the Honda Civic head on; the Dodge Ram then struck both vehicles.

As a result of the collision the Pontiac Grand Prix caught fire. The lone occupant who has not yet been identified was unable to exit the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda Civic, a lone male who has yet to be identified was extricated from the vehicle and air lifted to Victoria Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, a male from Central Elgin sustained no injuries as result of the collision.

With the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

Release of the deceased name is pending identification and the notification of the next of kin.

Highway #3 between Belmont Road and Penhale Road will remain closed until approximately 1am.
