26 Year Old Facing Second Degree Murder Charge In Death Of 77 Year Old

(KENORA, ON) – On February 26, 2018, shortly after 8:00 a.m., members of the Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a sudden death at a residence on the 800 block of Railway Street in the City of Kenora. The female victim who has been identified as 77-year-old Brenda RICHARDSON from Fort Frances was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trenton RICHARDSON, a 26-year-old male former Kenora resident, was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code.

On June 19, 2018, the accused was charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. He is currently being held in custody in Kenora and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 20, 2018.

Members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit, the Regional Support Team and Forensic Identification Services under the direction of Detective Inspector Darryl Sigouin of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this death in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

The post mortem took place at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) in Toronto on Thursday, March 1, 2018.
