(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently in the midst of their “Stop and Look†campaign which runs from Monday November 17th until Friday November 21st 2014.
They are focusing attention on intersection related offences, however due to the environmental conditions and high numbers of calls for service during the last few days officers have had less available time to focus on this campaign.
One officer did charge a motorist after nearly getting into a collision with a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign controlled intersection.
On Monday November 17th shortly before 11:30 p.m., an OPP officer operating a police cruiser was responding to a call for service and was travelling north bound on Perth Road 135 in Wartburg at the posted 60 km/h. As the cruiser approached Line 42 an east bound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the north bound lane of Road 135 as it was turning south on Perth Road 135. The officer had to take an evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with the pickup truck.
The 26 year old male driver of the pickup truck, a Bayfield resident, has been charged with “careless drivingâ€Â.
Motorists are reminded that stop signs should be obeyed at all times, even when the roads are snow covered.
