24 Year Old Caught Going 172 On The 401

(NORWICH TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On July 5, 2015 at approximately 9:42 a.m. Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while conducting traffic enforcement, observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed travelling on Highway 401 eastbound.

Police observed the vehicle to be travelling at an approximate speed of 172km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. The traffic stop was initiated west of Highway 2 on Highway 401 eastbound. Based on the observations and investigative steps taken by police, the male driver, 24 year old Zichen ZHAO of Mississauga was charged with the following:

Race a motor vehicle ~ Highway Traffic Act

His driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days and the vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers to react to change, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injury or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
