(PRESCOTT , ON)- On Tuesday January 17th, 2016 at approximately 12 noon, officers from the Prescott detachment, of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from an off-duty police officer reporting a silver Mazda car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 401 westbound, approaching Merwin Lane.
Prescott OPP set up radar enforcement at Merwin Lane, in Augusta Township. The noted vehicle passed the officers location travelling at 164.8km/hr in a posted 100km/hr zone.
Officers were safely able to stop the vehicle which contained 2 occupants. The driver was a 24 year old male from Burlington, Ontario. The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Race a Motor Vehicle- excessive speed. His vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for 7 days.
He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Brockville on February the 15th, 2017.
