(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – On June 2, 2016, at approximately 9:53 a.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were alerted to an erratic driver travelling westbound on Highway. The vehicle was swerving in and out of lanes, slowing down, and then speeding up. Near Dorchester Road, it suddenly came to a halt in the live lane, contributing to a rear-end collision between two vehicles following the erratic driver.
Officers located the white Nissan car parked on the north shoulder of the highway. The male driver was arrested for impaired operation of motor vehicle by drugs, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for testing.
As a result of the police investigation, 23-year-old Bashir AZIMI, from London, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (drugs), contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charge in a London court on July 11, 2016.
