224 Tickets Issued During Long Weekend

PREVENTATIVE ENFORCEMENT ON PERTH COUNTY ROADS

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) From the start, to the end of the Canada Day Long Weekend, Perth County OPP officers conducted extensive patrol and enforcement in an attempt to reduce collisions and dangers on our roads.

A total of eighteen R.I.D.E. spot checks were set up throughout the county resulting in three drivers being caught with a blood alcohol concentration registering between .05 and .08 on a roadside screening device. These drivers lost their licence for 3 days.

One motorist was stopped in Atwood on Sunday July 01 around 9 p.m., he failed a roadside breath test and failed subsequent Intoxilyzer breath tests at the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville. Brett Hopper (21) of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with “operation of a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood”. He is scheduled to appear in Listowel Court on July 25, 2012 to answer to this charge. He was also issued a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Officers also charged three drivers with racing their motor vehicles:
On Friday June 29th shortly before 1 p.m. an officer observed a fast moving north bound car on Blanchard St. (Hwy. 23) in the south end of Mitchell. The car was locked in on radar at 112 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The male a twenty year old West Perth resident was issued a summons to appear in Stratford court on July 24th.

On Saturday June 30th a fast moving east bound car was locked in on radar at 167 km/h in an 80 km/h zone while it was driving on Perth Line 20 east of Fullarton. The 24 year old male driver from Cambridge was handed a summons to attend in Stratford court on July 28th.

On Sunday July 1st, a car driving east bound on Perth Line 20 west of St.Pauls was locked in on radar at 142 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The 20 year old male driver from Stratford was given a summons ordering him to appear in Stratford court on July 24th to answer to the charge of “racing”.

These three racing motorists had their drivers licences suspended for seven days. Their licences were seized and have been returned to the Ministry of Transportation. All three vehicles were towed from the location where they were stopped and they have been impounded for 7 days.

In total Perth County OPP officers issued a total of 224 tickets during the long weekend. The majority of these were as a result of Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Act violations.
