(ZORRA TOWNSHIP, ON.) – Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers along with Zorra Township Fire Department members responded to a barn fire on September 6, 2015 at approximately 6:30 p.m. on the 45th Line just north of Road 68 in Zorra Township.
The barn was on the property of a large poultry farm, and housed approximately 22,000 chickens. A resident of the property discovered the fire and called for assistance. The large aluminum sided barn was completely destroyed by fire and all the chickens inside perished.
There were no injuries reported to any people at the scene. Embro, Thamesford, Uniondale and Hickson (East Zorra-Tavistock) fire stations all attended the scene to assist.
The fire remains under investigation but it is not believed to be suspicious.
