22 Year Old Has Vehicle Impounded For 7 Days

(TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON) – On Saturday January 12, 2019 at approximately 9:25 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar speed enforcement on Wellington Road 17 near the First Line in the Township of Mapleton. The officer observed a grey pick-up truck travelling eastbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at a speed in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by 50 km/h.

22-year-old Jeremy SOUTHWELL of Guelph has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act as well as Expired Valtag, Driver Fail to Surrender Driver’s Licence and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card.

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on March 7, 2019. His driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
