(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On January 17, 2016 at approximately 2:15 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver operating a 2011 Hyundai northbound on Wellington Road 39 just outside the City of Guelph.
Police located the vehicle and observed it weaving in its lane on Wellington Road 18 in Centre Wellington Township. A traffic stop was conducted and while speaking with the driver, police determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was placed under arrest. He was taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
22-year-old Anthony MACKINNON of West Grey Township has been charged with Over 80 Mgs and Impaired Driving contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on February 5, 2016 to answer to the charges.
