(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On Saturday August 20, 2016 at approximately 3:30pm emergency services personnel, including officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a marine collision on Canal Lake.
Two boats were being operated at the time of the collision. One boat was towing two people behind the boat on a recreational water toy. Preliminary investigation reveals that each boat altered their course to avoid a collision; however the recreational water toy and its occupants were struck by the boat. Both occupants were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants were a 15 year old male and a 22 year old female from Pickering, ON.
Arrested at the scene was the operator of the boat towing the recreational water toy: 22 year old Cole HOARE of Pickering, ON is charged with the following offences:
Operating a Vessel While Ability Impaired Cause Bodily Harm contrary to section 255(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
Operating a Vessel with Over 80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood Cause Bodily Harm contrary to section 255(2.1) of the CCCC
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 22, 2016. The accident is still under investigation.
