2014 Lewis Coray Trailblazer Award

Friday, February 14, 2014

The London Police Service, in partnership with the Congress of Black Women, congratulates Shanique Bartley for winning the 2014 Lewis Coray “Trailblazer Award” for Youth. Sergeant Marcel Marcellin, Diversity Officer for the London Police Service, made the announcement at the award ceremony, held last night at the London Police Service Headquarters.

Over 150 people attended the ceremony, including retired Sergeant Lewis Coray, who congratulated Shanique and the 13 finalists for their achievements. Shanique submitted an essay on Black History Month as part of her award application and she said, “Let us not classify a person by the material things which they possess, or by the pigmentation of their skin. We are all equal and should be treated as such. So instead of fighting against each other for superiority, why not embrace each and every single person for being who they are and see what a better place it would make this world.”

The London Police Service is honoured to present the Lewis Coray “Trailblazer Award” for Youth annually in celebration of Black History Month. We are so proud of the young community leaders.
