2013 Collision Review

In 2013, there were over 10,000 collisions in the City of London. This represents an increase of nearly 6%, when compared to collision data from 2012. The majority of these collisions are preventable. Distracted, impaired and aggressive driving behaviours are often the cause of these needless collisions. Despite repeated warnings and educational campaigns, some of these driving behaviours appear to be on the rise. In 2013, the London Police Service issued 1680 offence notices to motorists who were driving while holding or using a hand held electronic communication device. This represents a 45% increase in the number of charges laid, when compared to 2012. Additionally, the number of charges laid in relation to impaired driving increased by 14%, when compared to 2012.

The high collision intersections for 2013 are listed below:

1) Wellington/Commissioners – 84
2) Richmond/Oxford – 78
3) Highbury/Oxford – 76
4) Highbury/Hamilton – 74

Let’s work together at reducing the number of collisions and making our roadways safe for everyone! Regardless of your mode of transportation, we want to remind everyone to focus on safe travelling, when out on our sidewalks, roads and highways.
