(CALEDON, ON) – On February 10, 2016 officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a 2003 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle (CMV) that had been broken into sometime overnight. The CMV, belonging to Snap-On Tools, had multiple items stolen from inside.
Caledon OPP’s Street Crime Unit (SCU) linked evidence from a separate police investigation to the CMV that had been broken into. As a result, the SCU successfully executed a search warrant at 2 different premises located in Brampton, ON. Upon conducting the searches, the SCU recovered approx. $20,000 worth of assets owned by Snap-On Tools.
Subsequently, Darren MULLIN, 19, from Brampton was charged with the following offences: Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Mischief, Theft Over $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on March 17, 2016.
Further, 2 young persons, 15 years old and 17 years old, have also been charged with the following offences: Mischief, Theft Over $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. The young persons are to appear in Youth Justice Court in Orangeville on March 17, 2016.
The young persons cannot be named due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
