(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On December 29, 2015 a member of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call that a vehicle was in the centre median of Highway 400 in Seguin Township. OPP and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene north of Rankin Lake Road. The driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As a result of the police investigation, 20,000 unmarked cigarettes were seized from the vehicle.
The driver, Henry HACAULT, 58 years of age from Winnipeg, Manitoba was charged with:
· Possession of unmarked cigarettes contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act (TTA).
· Interfere with traffic contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on February 2, 2016 to answer to his charges.
OPP would like to remind the public that under the Tobacco Tax Act, unless otherwise authorized, it is illegal to buy, possess or distribute any quantity of untaxed cigarettes or any untaxed tobacco product.
