(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On July 14, 2016, at approximately 1:02 a.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed three motor vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed, northbound on Richmond Street, near Medway Road.
Officers initiated traffic stops. Two of the vehicles immediately pulled over, but one vehicle failed to stop for police. The blue Volkswagen car was observed driving off the road, eastbound on Eight Mile Road, into a wheat field, east of Adelaide Road. Three people were observed running from the vehicle, and were subsequently apprehended by police.
It was determined that the male driver had been drinking alcohol. He was placed under arrest, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment for breath tests.
As a result of the police investigation, 20-year-old Michael FISHER, from Middlesex Centre, Ontario, has been charged with driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol), driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, and fail to stop at scene of accident, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
The accused was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA), and is scheduled to answer the charges in a London court on August 23, 2016.
