(DRYDEN, ON) – On May 9, 2016 at 6:39 p.m., members of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Docker Township.
When dealing with the occupants of the vehicle, Police determined they were transporting a quantity of unmarked cigarettes. A search of the vehicle revealed 65 cases of illegal cigarettes. The tobacco’s estimated street value is approximately $195,000.00.
As a result of the investigation, Lindsay JAMES, 35 years old of Winnipeg, Manitoba has been charged with the following:
1. Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco contrary to Section 121.1 of the Criminal Code.
2. Possess unmarked cigarettes for sale contrary to Section 29(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act.
3. Possess unmarked cigarettes contrary to Section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act.
4. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000.00 contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
Also charged is Jamie PALANO, 35 years old of Winnipeg, Manitoba with the following:
1. Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco contrary to Section 121.1 contrary to Section 121.1 of the Criminal Code.
2. Possess unmarked cigarettes for sale contrary to Section 29(1) of the Tobacco Tax Act.
3. Possess unmarked cigarettes contrary to Section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act.
