(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – On Saturday June 13, 2015 shortly after 5 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting patrols along Perth Line 20 near Road 140, when a fast moving west bound vehicle was observed.
The officer activated the police radar and locked in the vehicle’s speed in at nearly twice the posted 80 km/h speed limit.
Andrew COUTU (19) of Kitchener was pulled over and was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”.
He is to appear at Stratford Court in July 14, 2015, to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days. In addition, his vehicle was towed from the scene and was impounded for a week.
The Perth County OPP wants to remind motorists that drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers to react to sudden changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision, and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.
