18 Year Old Drunk Hit And Run Driver Charged

(Township of Essa, ON)- On the 10th of May 2015 at 4:15 a.m., officers from the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision that had occurred at the intersection of County Road 21 and County Road 10 in the Township of Essa

The driver reported that he was travelling northbound on County Road 10 when his black Chevrolet Cruz was rear-ended by a red Chevrolet Cavalier at the intersection; however the red Cavalier had continued to drive northbound on County Road 10 and failed to remain at the scene. The driver followed the red Cavalier and observed it turn around and begin to travel southbound on County Road 10 for a short distance, until veering off the road and colliding with the east ditch, just south of County Road 21.

The occupants of the red Cavalier, then fled on foot. Officers heavily patrolled the area, and the OPP K-9 unit and Emergency Response Team attended for a ground search.

At 5:00 a.m. on the 10th of May 2015, while the search was underway an officer located a male party staggering along County Road 10 and found him to be intoxicated by alcohol. He reported to police that his red Cavalier had been stolen. After further investigation it was learned that the intoxicated male had been driving the red Cavalier and it was not in fact stolen.

The other occupants were located by officers, and it was confirmed they were not injured as a result of the collision.

Subsequently, the intoxicated male was arrested and charged with a number of offences.

Charged is 18-year old Evan BRIERE of Essa Township with:

· Impaired Driving

· Over 80mgs

· Dangerous Operation

· Obstruct Peace Officer

· Public Mischief

· Fail to Remain
