18 Year Old Distracted Driver Sends One To Hospital With Severe Head, Spine and Leg Injuries

On October 22nd, 2014 at 8:45 p.m., members of Guelph’s Emergency Services attended to a motor vehicle collision on Eastview Road.

At the time, a 42 year-old Guelph man that had been standing behind his 2013 Honda CRV was struck by an eastbound VW being operated by an 18 year-old Rockwood woman.

The victim in this collision sustained major injuries to his legs, spine and head. He was transported to Hamilton General Hospital given the severity of his injuries.

Collision Reconstruction officers tasked with this investigation located evidence at the scene that suggested that Distracted Driving was a primary cause of this collision.

After a two-month investigation, the eighteen year-old driver of the VW has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She is to appear in Provincial Court on February 17th, 2015.

The victim in this collision continues his recovery, and investigators are continuing their investigation.
