18 Year Old Charged In Fatal Collision

(BAYHAM TOWNSHIP, ON) – The 18 year old female driver Sara HILDEBRANT-BUECKERT is charged with the following:

Fail to yield to traffic on through highway contrary to section 136(2) of the Highway Traffic Act

Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver contrary to Ontario regulation 340/94 section 5(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

(BAYHAM TOWNSHIP, ON) – On September 18, 2016, at approximately 8:37 p.m., members of the Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Bayham Fire Department, and the Elgin-St Thomas and Oxford County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a motor vehicle collision on Richmond Road at Vienna Line.

A black Honda motorcycle was travelling northbound on Richmond Road. It struck the driver’s side of a blue Dodge van, which was travelling westbound on Vienna Line, after stopping for the stop sign.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 41-year-old male died at the scene. He has been identified as John MASALES, from Malahide Township, Ontario.

The passenger on the motorcycle, a 37-year-old male from Malahide Township, Ontario, was transported with life-threatening injuries by ambulance to hospital, where he is currently listed in serious condition.

The van driver (an 18-year-old female driver, from Malahide Township, Ontario) and three female passengers (a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old from Malahide Township, Ontario, and an 18-year-old from Southwest Oxford, Ontario) were transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Their current conditions were not made available.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to assist with the investigation. As a result, the roadways were closed for approximately five and a half hours.

This incident remains under investigation.
