(NORTH HURON, ON) – Members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to drowning at a farm located in North Huron on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 8:55 p.m.
Investigators discovered that a group of siblings were playing outside when an 18-month female wandered away from the family an adjacent barn were livestock were being kept. When other family members realized the child had wandered off, they began to search for her and found her a short time later unresponsive in a water trough located inside the barn.
The child was rushed to an area hospital by paramedics however attempts to revive her were unsuccessful. The child was pronounced at the hospital.
Members of the Huron County Crime Unit continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident and will remain on scene pending a forensic post-mortem examination being conducted at a London hospital.
The name of the deceased will not be released at this time until next-of-kin have been contacted in relation to this tragedy.
