(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – An intoxicated 17 year old female was taken to hospital as a precaution after she was found semi-conscious in a ditch on Concession 8 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2015.
At approximately 2:03 a.m. on Sunday, April 26th, Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to investigate after a passerby observed the girl in the ditch and called an ambulance. Investigation revealed that the girl, who was extremely intoxicated, left a house party approximately 1 km from where she was located. The girl was released from hospital; however this scenario could have had a much different outcome.
Grey County OPP wish to remind young people that underage drinking is not only against the law; it can be hazardous to your health and may have serious consequences.
Young people drink alcohol for a number of reasons: to feel relaxed and have fun, to be like their friends, to try new things, to feel better about themselves, to deal with stress, to rebel, to have “something to do” and or to be like parents and other adults.
Parents are urged to talk about the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs with their kids. For more information on this topic visit the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse web site at: http://www.ccsa.ca/Resource%20Library/CCSA-Youth-and-Alcohol-Summary-2014-en.pdf
