17 Year Old Faces 4 Attempted Murder Charges

(ONEIDA OF THE THAMES FIRST NATION, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has arrested and charged a 17 year old male in relation to a shooting incident on August 3, 2013.

Members of the Middlesex OPP responded to several calls on Oneida of The Thames First Nations in relation to several incidents involving violent confrontations. Upon their arrival, they located an armed suspect and gun shots were exchanged. The male party was apprehended, arrested and taken to a local hospital. One of the officers received minor injuries.

The OPP contacted Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) who has invoked their mandate.

The OPP CIB conducted a parallel investigation into the events leading up to the shooting. As a result, the 17-year-old male has been charged with the following offences;

Aggravated Assault – Section 268 Criminal Code (CC)
4 Counts – Attempted Murder While Using a Firearm – Section 239(1)(a) CC
Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm – Section 95(1)(a) CC.
2 Counts – Discharge Firearm with Intent – Endanger Life – Section 244(1) CC
Assault with a Weapon – Section 267(a) CC.
Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm – Section 91(1) CC
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Section 92(1) CC
Failure to Comply with Sentence or Disposition – Section 137 Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in London on August 21, 2013 to answer to the charges. His name is being withheld due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
