17 Year Old Caught Doing 188 in an 80 – Vehicle Impounded

(ZORRA TOWNSHIP, ON.) – On June 3, 2015 at approximately 8:23 p.m. Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol, observed a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed westbound on Highway 19 east of the 21st Line in Zorra Township.

Police observed the motor vehicle to be travelling at an approximate speed of 188km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. Police followed the vehicle and were able to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle that had 4 male youths within. Based on the observations and investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, the male driver, a 17 year old youth of Ingersoll was charged with the following:

Race a motor vehicle ~ Highway Traffic Act

The drivers licence was seized and suspended for 7 days and the vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk including their passengers. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers to react to change, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injury or death will occur.

OPP would like to remind the young drivers that having your licence is a privilege that can and will be removed. Drive safely and arrive alive.
