15 Vehicles Involved In 6 Collisions In Owen Sound

On Saturday September 10, 2016 over a 5 hour period the Owen Sound Police responded to 6 separate motor vehicle collisions involving a total of 15 cars.

At 10:11am police responded to a collision at 10 th Street West and 7 th Avenue West.

The investigation revealed that a 63 year old Owen Sound female who was operating a 2015 Kia turned across the path of an oncoming 2005 Toyota driven by a 29 year old Owen Sound resident. There were no injuries however one of the vehicles needed to be towed from the scene. The 63 year old female was charged with turn not in safety.

At approximately 10:45am police responded to a collision in the 1500 block of 16 th Avenue East.

The investigation revealed that a 75 year old London Ontario male operating a 2016 GMC SUV exited a private drive into the path of a 2005 GMC pickup being driven by a 50 year old Owen Sound resident. There were no injuries as a result of the collision and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. The 75 year old male was charged with failing to yield.

At approximately 12:50pm police responded to a collision in the 1100 block of 16 th Street East.

The investigation revealed that a 99 Honda being driven by a 20 year old Owen Sound female exited a private drive into the path of a 2010 Pontiac being driven by a 24 year old Port Elgin resident. There were no injuries as a result of the collision however both vehicles were towed from the scene. The 20 year old female was charged with failing to yield.

At approximately 1:55pm police responded to a collision in the 1300 block of 16 th Street East.

The investigation revealed that a 2015 Kia being driven by an 82 year old Owen Sound male exited from a private drive into the path of a 2004 Ford being driven by a 27 year old Owen Sound resident. There were no injuries as a result of the collision however one of the vehicles was towed from the scene. The 82 year old male was charged with failing to yield.

At approximately 2:21 pm police investigated a fail to remain which occurred in the 700 block of 10 th Street East at around 2:00pm. The investigation revealed that 2 vehicles were travelling west bound, a white 2016 Chevrolet followed by a black 2008 Hyundai. The vehicles were slowing for traffic in front of them when a red Dodge Caravan ran into the rear of the Hyundai which in turn hit the rear of the Chevrolet. The damage was minimal however the Dodge Caravan left the scene without providing any information.

Police are seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the vehicle and its driver. If anyone one has information relating to this collision please contact PC Diaz at 519-376- 1234 ext 163 or Crime Stoppers.

At approximately 3:05 pm police responded to 10 th Street East and 5 th Avenue East regarding a 4 vehicle collision. The investigation revealed that a 47 year old Owen Sound resident operating a 2015 Ford pickup truck was west bound down 10 th Street East hill in the left lane and was slowing for a vehicle turning left. A 2007 Toyota being driven by a 49 year old Owen Sound male was following the pickup truck and was unable to stop, sliding on the wet pavement into the rear of the truck. At the same time a 2010 Chevrolet being driven by a 91 year old Owen Sound resident and travelling in the curb lane stopped abruptly believing that the pickup truck was going to move over to her lane. Another 2010 Chevrolet following the 91 year old was unable to stop and slid on the wet pavement into the rear of the 91 year olds vehicle.

One person was transported to hospital as a precaution and one vehicle was towed from the scene. They were no charges laid.

The Owen Sound Police want to remind drivers to use extra caution during inclement weather and increase their following distance.
