$14,000 In Graffiti Damage – 37 Charges Laid

(Leamington, ON) – During a two month period in mid-December, 2014 the Downtown Core area of Leamington was hit with numerous “Tags”. Various municipal, private and School buildings were spray painted by suspects.

The “Tags” were all similar in nature with the same obscene logo, and negative wordings towards some authority figures. The artwork was very poor quality and it does not appear to be gang related.

Over the course of a few weeks the Leamington CORE team, which is made up of OPP officers working the streets “OLD SCHOOL STYLE”, these members walk and bike the Downtown area and create relationships with citizen from all walks of life.

During their patrols, officer came across a couple of young males who were had blue paint on them, along with blue paint cans. The previous mischief was done by spray painting with blue paint. Further investigation revealed that the young males had similar artwork and wordings in their school book and personal belongs.

As a result of some good old police work, and hitting the streets, the officers were able to locate 37 victims in the Leamington area, with damages valued at $14,000.

Two Young Persons as described by the Youth Criminal Justice Act have been charged with 37 Mischief under $5000 charges, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
