(PLYMPTON-WYOMING, ON) The Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle that occurred around 3:00 p.m. on July 23, 2013 at the intersection of Queen Street and Hyde Street.
Investigation indicates that the 14 year old cyclist failed to stop at the stop sign on Hyde Street and collided with a Pontiac car that was travelling east on Queen Street. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet but fortunately did not receive any serious injuries. The vehicle driver was not injured.
Lambton County OPP Sergeant Tim Ives who is in charge of Traffic Services with Lambton OPP, says the youth was very fortunate. “Cyclists must obey stop signs and follow the rules of the road the same as cars do. Everyone under the age of 18 is required by law to wear a helmet and it is the responsibility of the care givers to ensure kids wear theirs. We were very lucky in this case that the cyclist was not seriously injured.â€Â
The Lambton County OPP also reminds motorists to watch for cyclists. Kids often dart out from laneways without looking and drivers should be extra cautious in areas where children play.
