104 Dead – Pedestrian Safety Taken Seriously By OPP And Responsible Stakeholders

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – The Provincial Pedestrian Safety Campaign is a partnership of various stakeholders in Ontario. The campaign will launch on November 1, 2016 across the Province.

On average, pedestrians comprise more than 13% of fatally and seriously injured collision victims each year in Canada. Traffic fatalities are at the highest in five years. Between 2009 and 2013, there was an average of 104 pedestrians killed annually.

Pedestrian safety is always important, but becomes a heightened concern as we head into the darker fall and winter seasons.

On Monday, October 31, 2016 Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Woodstock Police Service and the Oxford County Injury Prevention Team (OCIPT) will be participating in the campaign. Members will be attending public schools in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg to educate pedestrians about safety and to hand out reflective safety arm bands.

Remain safe, be alert, be seen, stay visible, stay safe and walk safely.
