Wellington OPP Weekly Report

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to consolidate and streamline our notable traffic offences and publish a single weekly release.

On July 20, 2023, shortly after 10:00 a.m, an officer on patrol observed tire debris in a live lane of traffic on Highway 89, Minto. After removing the debris, the officer located the commercial motor vehicle responsible for it. As a result of the investigation, a 44 year old of Thornloe has been charged with Wheel Separation – CMV, Fail to Maintain Daily Log, Fail to Accurately Complete Inspection Report, and Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle with no ELD. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on October 4, 2023.   

On July 21, 2023 at shortly after 12:00 a.m., the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Jones Baseline, Guelph-Eramosa. It was reported that a single motor vehicle had left the roadway and gone into a ditch. The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. As a result of the investigation, Willis GRUNWALD, 21 years old of Burlington has been charged with Impaired Operation, Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus), and Dangerous Operation. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 8, 2023.     

On July 21, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer stopped a motor vehicle on Highway 6 in Kennilworth. As a result of the investigation, Roderick HERRIOT, 52 years old of Guelph has been charged with Operation while Impaired -B.A.C. (80 Plus). The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on August 8, 2023.

On July 23, 2023 at approximately 7:00 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 140 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 17, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, a 45 year old of Guelph has been charged with Stunt Driving and Fail to Surrender Permit. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the provincial offences court in Guelph on November 1, 2023. 

On July 25, 2023 at approximately 6:45 a.m., an officer observed a motor vehicle traveling approximately 133 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone on Wellington Road 11, Mapleton. As a result of the investigation, a 22 year old of Drayton has been charged with Stunt Driving and Speeding 50 plus. The defendant is scheduled to appear before provincial offences court in Guelph on November 1, 2023. 

*Anyone charged with Operation while Impaired- 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) or Failing to Comply with Demand receives a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and a 7-day Vehicle Impoundment as per statute.

*Anyone charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt receives a 14-day impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension as per statute.
