Police Investigate Hate Filled ‘Zoom-bombing’ Of Vigil

On June 8, 2021, at 6 p.m., the Coalition of Muslim Women Kitchener-Waterloo hosted a community vigil, via Zoom, for the Muslim family tragically killed in London, Ontario on June 6, 2021.

Approximately two hours into the vigil, individuals interrupted the event with racist and homophobic comments. The organizers were forced to pause the vigil while the persons responsible were removed.

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Cybercrime Unit continue to investigate this incident, while members of our Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Unit continue to offer support to the Muslim community.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Islamophobia and all forms of hate have no place in Waterloo Region. Everyone deserves to be and feel safe in our community.
