Impaired man found driving heavily damaged vehicle

On Sat., August 29, 2026, Barrie Police officers responded to a call shortly after 11 p.m. regarding a heavily damaged vehicle being driven in the area of Yonge Street and Big Bay Point Road.

As the vehicle travelled along Yonge Street, parts were falling from it onto the roadway. The vehicle was also being operated with a bare rim due to a flat tire.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, formed grounds to initiate an impaired driving investigation.

The driver was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters, where testing conducted by a qualified breath technician confirmed his blood alcohol concentration was nearly three times the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 54-year-old man from Scarborough was charged with:

Operation while impaired
Operation while impaired (80 plus)
Additionally, the driver received an immediate 90-day licence suspension, and a seven-day vehicle impoundment, as per the Highway Traffic Act.
