Collision Leads To Impaired Charge – COTE

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County Detachment has charged an individual following a single-vehicle collision investigation.

On May 15, 2023, at approximately 9:10 p.m., members the Elgin County OPP responded to a collision involving a passenger vehicle that struck a guardrail on Plank Road, Municipality of Bayham.

When speaking with police, the driver displayed signs of impairment and was taken into to custody without incident. The driver was transported to Elgin County OPP Detachment for breath testing.

As a result of the investigation, Elgin County OPP has charged Michael COTE, a 31-year-old of Aylmer, Ontario with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood concentration (80 plus)

No injuries reported by the lone occupant/driver.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Thomas on June 13, 2023.
