Armed Carjacking Attempt – Teens Arrested

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police have arrested two youths in connection to the attempted robbery of a vehicle with a firearm in Kitchener.

On April 4, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., three male suspects approached a female victim as she entered her car, a white Lexus, on Belmont Avenue West. One of the males brandished a firearm, and the males unsuccessfully attempted to force the victim from her vehicle. When approached by witnesses, the males fled the area on foot.

Officers from Neighbourhood Policing, the Emergency Response Team, and the Direct Action Response Team responded to the area and located and arrested two suspects behind a business on King Street South near Union Boulevard.

A silver firearm was recovered by police at the time of the arrest.

The two males, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Kitchener, have been jointly charged with attempt robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent. The 15-year-old was charged was also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both accused parties were held in police custody for a bail hearing.

The third suspect remains outstanding and is described as a Black male in his late teens with a thin build.

The investigation remains ongoing by WRPS’ Robbery Team.
